VMD · IVAS Acupuncturist · ISELP Member

Dr. Michele L. Ferraro

Dr. Ferraro is a 1988 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a 1984 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College. She is a certified International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) acupuncturist and a member of the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology — a group of veterinarians dedicated to advancing their knowledge about lameness and lameness diagnosis.

Equine sports medicine and digital imaging have been areas of particular passion and expertise for the past 20 years, and she is currently advancing her expertise in postural rehabilitation. Dr. Ferraro also has broad experience and expertise in medicine and reproduction.

Her personal interests include raising sheep, sheep dog trialing and training with border collies, and riding Leista, the Icelandic horse. She also enjoys traveling the nation and the world, hiking, contra dancing, and excellent food.

Dr. Cyra Noorani Erwin
DVM · Partner since 2011

Dr. Cyra Noorani Erwin

Originally from Marblehead, MA, Dr. Erwin discovered her affinity for all things equine at the age of nine, when she took her first riding lesson. She competed as a hunter/jumper and equitation rider, and also spent several years on the ground, working with horses as a show groom. She graduated from Duke University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in 2006, then completed an internship at Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center in Ringoes, NJ.

Dr. Erwin came to Millbrook Equine in July 2007 and became a partner in 2011. Her professional interests include sports medicine, diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, dentistry, and ophthalmology.

Outside of work, she is devoted to her family. All of the Erwins — adults, kids, and dog — enjoy playing outside, swimming, and going for walks. The little girls aren't yet involved in equine activities, but they are experts at feeding carrots to horses!

Dr. Miranda Gosselin
DVM · Reproduction & Neonatology

Dr. Miranda Gosselin

Dr. Gosselin grew up on a thoroughbred breeding farm in Buckley, Washington — springs spent foaling out mares, summers cleaning stalls and grooming yearlings. She headed east to Smith College for a BA in Neuroscience, then returned to Washington to attend Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Focusing on equine medicine and surgery, she received the award of "Senior Student Most Proficient in Large Animal Surgery." Since 2006, she has completed the internship program at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital, opened a successful solo equine ambulatory practice in Texas, and acted as a regulatory veterinarian at Lone Star Park. She joined Millbrook Equine in February 2011.

While Dr. Gosselin is happy simply working with horses, her passion lies in equine reproduction and neonatology. Off the clock, she enjoys traveling, skiing and the outdoors, and time with her husband and two sons.

Dr. Alana King
DVM, DACT · Board-Certified Theriogenologist

Dr. Alana King

Dr. King received her veterinary degree from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario. Following graduation, she completed an internship at a busy equine emergency referral facility in San Antonio, Texas — where she discovered an affinity for equine reproduction and obstetrics — and went on to board certification in theriogenology through the residency program at the University of Florida.

As part of that program, she worked for a year collaboratively with Hagyard Equine Medical Center's fertility unit and the Gluck Equine Research Center in Kentucky, then spent three years in the Saratoga region before arriving at Millbrook Equine in 2014.

She specializes in mare and stallion reproduction and has a special interest in neonatal care.

Dr. Kari Searls
DVM · Airway, Lameness & Imaging

Dr. Kari Searls

Born and raised in Iowa City, Dr. Searls grew up riding dressage and competing at local hunter/jumper shows, working with trainers and veterinarians in the area.

She attended University of Massachusetts Amherst, majoring in pre-veterinary studies and minoring in history, and was very involved with the IHSA Equitation Team. She attended Iowa State University for veterinary school and completed a yearlong internship with Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Hospital in Los Olivos, California.

Professionally, her interests include upper airway disease, lameness, and diagnostic imaging. In her free time she enjoys hiking with her dog, Naya, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Rachelle LaPrade
DVM · LaPrade, Inc

Dr. Rachelle LaPrade

Growing up in California, Dr. LaPrade competed on the Hunter/Jumper circuit, starting in the pony divisions and culminating in the Junior Hunters and Medals, and advanced through the Pony Club ranks to her 'B' rating. She graduated from Yale University in 1993 with a BA in biology, followed by a 1997 graduation with Phi Zeta honors from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Since then she has opened and sold two successful solo ambulatory equine practices, in Oakland, CA and Des Moines, IA.

As an accomplished equestrian, Dr. LaPrade carries her deep-seated understanding of the functionality and performance of horses into her veterinary practice.

She lives in Connecticut with her husband and two dogs, has four children scattered throughout New England, and competes her Hanoverian Caspar in the amateur jumpers. Outside of horses, she enjoys hiking, running, reading, and traveling.
